Frequently asked questions
What services does ZGreen offer?
We design and build landscapes and hardscapes: paver and brick patios, walkways and driveways, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, fire pits and outdoor fireplaces and landscape lighting. We also offer lawn maintenance and seasonal cleanups and snow plowing.
What areas do you serve?
We work out of Elgin and serve the Fox Valley and the northwest and west suburbs, including St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Barrington, Schaumburg, Wheaton and more. See the full list on our service areas page, and call if your town isn’t listed.
How does the design process work?
It starts with a conversation and a visit to your property so we understand how you want to use the space. We then put together a custom design and a detailed written proposal. Once you approve it, we plan the build, do the work with our own crew, and walk the finished project with you.
Can you design around my style and budget?
Yes. Tell us what you like, what you want to use the yard for, and roughly what you want to spend. We design to that number and show you where the money goes, so you can adjust scope before anything is built.
What materials do you use for patios and walls?
Most patios we build use concrete pavers, clay brick or natural stone. Retaining and seat walls are usually segmental block or natural stone. We choose products and build the base to handle clay soil and freeze–thaw, and we’ll show you samples before you decide.
How long does a typical project take?
It depends on size, access and weather. A single patio moves much faster than a full backyard with walls, a kitchen and plantings. Your proposal includes a schedule so you know what to expect before we start.
How much does a landscaping project cost?
Cost depends on size, materials, access and site conditions, so we price every project after a site visit. For a sense of what drives the number, read our guides to paver patio cost, retaining wall cost and outdoor kitchen cost.
When is the best time to build?
Hardscape season in northern Illinois runs roughly April through November, depending on weather. Many homeowners start design in winter so they are on the schedule early in spring.
Do you handle permits?
Requirements vary by village and by project. We confirm what your project needs before we build and tell you what, if anything, has to be filed.
Do you offer maintenance after installation?
Yes. We offer lawn maintenance and spring and fall cleanups, and snow plowing and ice management in winter.
Are estimates free?
Yes. Call 224-508-0252 or send us your project details and we’ll reply within 24 hours.
